At CJ Moyna, we’ve always believed that great projects come from great people. Machines move dirt, but people move the mission. That’s why we’re launching something big—our Legacy Leadership Program, a hands-on, two-day development experience built specifically for our industry and our culture.
This program is designed to grow our employees vertically, even as we continue shaping the earth horizontally. Leadership isn’t a title here. It’s a mindset, a set of choices, and a daily practice. The Legacy Leadership Program puts real tools in the hands of the people who keep this company moving.
The Framework: Six Disciplines of Legacy Leadership
Every session of the program is anchored in six core disciplines that create the backbone of how we lead:
1. Character
Act with integrity. Show up consistently. Do the right thing, especially when no one is watching.
2. Competence
Know your craft and never stop learning. Skill, discipline, and preparation drive safe, efficient work.
3. Connection
Build strong relationships on and off the job. Listen well. Communicate clearly. Earn trust.
4. Clarity
Set expectations. Remove confusion. Make sure everyone understands the mission, the goal, and the next step.
5. Support
Make it easier for people to do their best work. Lift others up. Share knowledge. Create an environment where teams thrive.
6. Accountability
Own your actions and results. Hold yourself and others to a high standard without blame or defensiveness.
These aren’t abstract ideas. They’re practical behaviors that shape how we lead every day.
Powered by Proven Leadership Principles
The program draws from the most impactful leadership philosophies used in high-performance organizations across the world:
Extreme Ownership (Jocko Willink)
Participants learn what it means to take responsibility for everything in their world. No excuses. No passing the buck. Just clear ownership, decisive action, and accountability.
Turn the Ship Around (L. David Marquet)
We’ll explore the shift from leader-follower to leader-leader. Everyone becomes responsible for thinking, solving, and leading within their role. This principle fits our culture perfectly—empowering people closest to the work to make smart calls.
Mindset (Carol Dweck)
The difference between a fixed mindset and a growth mindset shows up every day on the job. We teach employees how to approach challenges with curiosity, persistence, and a willingness to learn rather than fear failure.
There are other supporting materials, but together, these ideas give our team a clear, practical roadmap for personal growth and stronger leadership on the ground.
What This Means for Our Employees
The Legacy Leadership Program isn’t a classroom lecture. It’s interactive, practical, and tailored to the realities of heavy civil construction. Expect scenarios from the field, team challenges, self-reflection tools, and leadership reps that stick.
When people grow, crews grow. Projects improve. Communication gets tighter. And the entire organization moves intentionally with more purpose.
Looking Ahead: Opening the Program to Inner Circle Companies
Right now, CJ Moyna employees will be the first to benefit from this development experience. But we’re not stopping there. By the end of this year, our goal is to open the Legacy Leadership Program to partners across the Inner Circle network.
Great leaders build more than projects. They build communities, companies, and lasting impact. We’re excited to share this program with the organizations that help move our industry forward.
